I laughed so hard I cried. Can always count on The Onion for that.
Nation's Gays Demand Right to Library Card
"Perhaps in 10 or 20 years we can talk about full library rights for all," said University of Florida Library and Information Sciences Professor Bruce Seitz... "If gays are issued cards too quickly, we could see a violent reactionary response, with millions of shocked and offended Americans cutting up their own cards and their children's cards."
"For now, gays should just be happy to read their Bibles," Seitz added.

Sydney is to get herself a gay library; a good thing considering the rich history of GLBTI culture in this city.
For us women though, there already is a substantial collection at The Women's Library in Newtown and some also at Jessie Street National Women's Library in the city though the collections are both quite out of date as they rely mostly on donations. Jessie St. also has some 'fact files' on their website of Wonderful Women of Australia.
Let's hope the new library collection is representative of ALL gay (and bi and trans and intersex and queer) culture in the city and not just that of gay men.
Lt. Laurel Hester's story, filmed by documentary maker Cynthia Wade, has been selected to be shown at the Sundance Film Festival next month.
Some of you may have heard of Lt Hester's battle with local politicians for the right for her life partner of 15 years, Stacie, to receive her pension in the event of Lt Hester's death. She won that right though sadly, a month later she lost her battle with cancer.
Lt Hester sent this video to plead her and Stacie's case. Please watch it. Please think of what it really means for us to have equal rights and please consider the inhumanity of having to beg, on your deathbed, for something that is given freely to heterosexual life partners, married or otherwise.

Australian Infront are running their visual response contest again; the theme for this one is 'future?'. Below is my entry. Suitably naff I think.
The Little Black Book for Girlz - A Book on Healthy Sexuality has been around for a little while now but quite a few conservatives got their knickers in a knot about Wal-Mart stocking the book and the predictable vitriol began to flow on various websites. I won't bother to go into it as it's all getting a bit tired really. The book was pulled from both the Wal-Mart site and the St. Stephens Community House site that created it.
So in the interest of promoting the Gay Agenda TM I have linked to the book in the internet archive website. You won't see the images but you will be able to read the text. I also have some screen shots and I'll post these in my photo gallery shortly. I have been unable to find them all but I would like to sincerely thank the Institute of Canadian Values and for providing me with these images and links to the referenced material on the web; your good work in assisting with the promotion of the Gay Agenda will not go unrewarded and your complementary butt plug is in the post. I have also included instructions for removing the pole you currently have up there.
P.S Dear Goddess of the Mirror Ball and her Committee for the Promotion of the Gay Agenda, thank you for sending me my Manual for the Promotion of the Gay Agenda; I had been searching here in Australia for it but was having no luck. My fellow sisters insisted it was a product of Rev. Fred Nile's and other conservatives' imaginations but I was sure it must exist and they were so het up about it and really, they wouldn't get all hot and bothered about something that did not exist now would they? However, I have yet to receive my t-shirt and bumper stickers and am finding their lack is hindering my progress to covert all the straight girls in my neighbourhood (what's left of them anyway). They are so much hard work and my sisters all wonder why I am wasting my time when there are plenty of ready made lesbians at my fingertips, as it were, but that would just be preaching to the converted and what fun is that?
What next? An attack on Gay male penguins?
"What would happen, really and truly, to America, to you, to your family and your marriage and your children and their children and your precious SUV and the price of a killer latte, if gay marriage were allowed, nationwide, tomorrow? How would it affect your life and your happiness and your faith? What would change? What is the threat, exactly? Can you actually pinpoint it?"
Another article from Mark Morford at the SF Gate Chronicle. Read the whole thing. Always worth it.
In addition, this is my favourite reference for those inevitable discussions with the door knocking and street traipsing and Fred Nile's at the end of the Mardi Gras underage kids god bothering bible bashers; I love to discuss the The Six Bible Passages Used To Condemn Homosexuals with them. I can tell you, there's nothing they hate more than a well informed heathen... oh yeah there is, a GAY well informed heathen.
Apparently 'my people' are now a demographic all our own. I look upon this with some amusement as those that congregate under the rainbow coloured GLBTIQ banner of increasing acronyms are about a diverse a bunch as you can get really. I mean, can somebody please tell me what on earth I am supposed to have in common with a gay man? Peenies, hairy bottoms, handbags and fag hags on one hand vs pussy, smooth round curves, wouldn't be caught dead with one and... nope, there is no dyke equivalent. Yes, I generalise.
Markets Focus: Is the Word Getting Out?
Larry Dobrow
Quick word to those who are marketing to 'The Gay Community' TM - Put your money where your mouth is. An add in the local gay press saying "we support... blady blah blah" does not cut it. We're not stupid. If you really want to show your support, make sure you have a non discriminatory workplace policy, donate to charities and community groups who DO provide us with support and please, do more than just ask you brothers, wife's cousin who 'has gay friends' for advice on marketing strategy. Gratuitous advertising in the form of putting a float in the Sydney Mardi Gras does NOT count; I will not name names but we all know who they are.
"You'll find no evangelical, no Christian leader anywhere
coming out and saying: Let's do something different. Let's take this
shocking Haggard scandal as a cosmic sign, as a big rainbow-colored
warning flag that maybe, just maybe we need to look at this gay issue
with a little more love and a little less nauseating pseudo-spiritual
homophobic dogma. Maybe now is the time to rethink this hateful
ideology that has kept us so deep in fear and mistrust and sexual agony
for so long. Can I get a praise Jesus?"
Mark Morford at the SF Gate Chronicle. Read the whole article. Trust me, it's worth it.
Mark, if I was that way inclined, I'd have your babies.
I can always count on Justice Michael Kirby to articulate how I feel on certain issues. He spoke on Monday at the 12th National Family Law Conference in Perth on the issue of Marriage Equality. I hope to get a hold of his full presentation.
